QRP ACTIVITIES
My interest in QRP operation really began with my shortwave listener hobby in the summer of 1954 when I built the Heathkit Ocean Hopper regenerative receiver. Many nights my brother Bob and I would listen for the cw and phone stations on the ham bands trying to pick out the weak ones.
I had a novice license for one year from 1955 to 1956. Other things occupied my time in the ensuing years until I obtained my general class license in 1964. After operating QRO in Illinois and Iowa, I eventually became interested in the QRP mode in 1976 when faithfully reading Adrian Weiss's QRP Column in CQ Magazine.
